This Privacy Policy describes how DataMopp-Up (“the App,” “we,” “us”) collects, uses, stores, and protects information when you use the App on your Android device. DataMopp-Up is a data communication aggregator that manages your SMS text messages and email in one place.

1. SMS and Messaging Data

DataMopp-Up is designed to serve as your device's default SMS handler. When you choose to set DataMopp-Up as your default SMS application, the App:

  • Reads, receives, sends, and stores SMS and MMS messages to provide its core messaging functionality (viewing, composing, organizing, and managing your text messages).
  • Stores your messages locally on your device in the App's private database. Your message content is not uploaded to our servers — we do not operate servers that store your messages.
  • Requests SMS permissions only after you have agreed to make DataMopp-Up your default SMS handler, and ceases use of those permissions if the App is no longer your default SMS handler.

Use limitations. Your SMS message content is used solely to provide the App's core messaging and organization features, including the optional AI-powered summarization features described in Section 3. Your SMS message content is never: used for advertising or marketing; sold to any third party; shared with any third party except as described in Section 3 (AI Processing) when you use AI features; or used to determine creditworthiness or for lending.

Our access to and use of SMS data complies with the Google Play SMS and Call Log Permissions policy.

2. Email Data (Credentials and Content)

DataMopp-Up lets you connect one or more of your own email accounts — including Gmail, Outlook/Microsoft, Yahoo/AOL, and other standards-based (IMAP) accounts — so that your mail can be viewed and managed alongside your text messages.

  • Authentication. Where a provider supports it (Gmail and Outlook/Microsoft), the App connects using that provider's official OAuth sign-in, so you authorize access directly with your email provider and the App does not handle your account password. For IMAP accounts, any credentials you enter are used solely to connect to your chosen mail server.
  • Credential storage. Authorization tokens and connection credentials are stored locally on your device in encrypted form. They are not transmitted to us, and we do not operate servers that store them.
  • Message content. Email retrieved from your accounts is cached locally on your device so you can read and organize it within the App. We do not upload your email content to our own servers.
  • Use limitations. Your email credentials and content are used solely to provide the App's email and organization features, including the optional AI features in Section 3. They are never sold, and never used for advertising.

3. AI Processing (Google Gemini)

DataMopp-Up offers optional AI-powered features that summarize your messages — single-message summaries and the daily and weekly digests generated on the SISIDI screen.

  • Consent is required first. Before any message content is sent for AI processing, the App shows an in-app disclosure and asks for your explicit consent. Nothing is transmitted to the AI service unless and until you agree. You can decline and continue using every other feature of the App normally.
  • When you use an AI feature (after consenting), the content of the message(s) you choose to summarize is transmitted to Google's Gemini API for processing, and the generated summary is returned to the App.
  • This transmission occurs only when you invoke an AI feature. The App does not continuously or automatically send your message history to the Gemini service.
  • AI-generated summaries are labeled as AI-generated within the App so you can always tell them apart from your own content.
  • This constitutes sharing of data with a third party (Google) to generate your summaries. Your use of these features is subject to Google's terms and privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy

FREE tier: “Because we use the free tier of the Gemini API, Google may use content submitted for summarization to improve its products and services.”

If you prefer not to have any message content transmitted for AI processing, simply do not consent to, or do not use, the AI summary and digest features.

4. How Your Information Is Stored and Protected

DataMopp-Up follows a local-first design. Your messages, retrieved email, and account credentials are stored on your device in the App's private storage.

  • Sensitive credentials (such as email authorization tokens) are protected using encryption on the device.
  • Your app data is excluded from cloud backup. The App disables Android's automatic cloud backup of its own data, so your messages, cached email, and stored credentials are not copied off your device by the system backup mechanism.
  • Because your data lives on your device, its security also depends on your device's own security (screen lock, device encryption, and keeping your software up to date).
  • We do not maintain a cloud database of your messages, and we cannot access your message content remotely.

No method of electronic storage is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security; however, we design the App to keep your communication data on your device and under your control.

5. Data Retention and Deletion

Because your data is stored locally on your device, you control its retention.

  • Messages, summaries, and cached email remain in the App's local storage until you delete them or uninstall the App.
  • You may delete individual records within the App, and you may disconnect an email account to remove its stored credentials.
  • “Delete all my data” control. The App provides an in-app control (in its protected area) that permanently and irreversibly erases everything stored on your device: all messages, AI summaries and digests, cached email, connected-account credentials and sign-in tokens, reminders, tags, and app settings. It also signs you out of connected accounts. This is your one-tap way to remove all data the App holds.
  • Uninstalling the App also removes the App's locally stored data from your device.

For any data-deletion questions, contact us at Support@DataMopp-Up.com.

6. Advertising and Analytics

To keep the App free, we display advertisements using a third-party service:

AdMob (Google LLC) — serves advertisements in the App. Data collected: device identifiers (such as the Advertising ID), approximate location as permitted by your device settings, and app interaction/usage data. Data AdMob collects: https://developers.google.com/admob/android/privacy/play-data-disclosure. Privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads. You may reset or delete your Advertising ID, and opt out of ads personalization, in your device's Google settings.

No third-party analytics. The App does not include any third-party analytics SDK. For app health, we rely only on Google Play's built-in reporting (Android Vitals), which provides aggregated, anonymized crash and performance data and does not receive your message or email content.

Important: The advertising service never receives the content of your SMS messages, emails, or AI-generated summaries. It receives only the device and usage data described above.

7. Children's Privacy

DataMopp-Up is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the App, contact us at Support@DataMopp-Up.com and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

8. Android Permissions Used by the App

The App requests the following Android permissions, solely for the purposes described:

  • SMS / MMS permissions (read, receive, send SMS/MMS, receive WAP push) — core messaging functionality as your default SMS handler (Section 1).
  • Internet / network access — email retrieval and sending, AI summary features, and advertising.
  • Notifications and exact alarms (post notifications, schedule exact alarms) — to deliver message alerts, timed announcements, and reminders you set.
  • Full-screen alerts — to show an urgent announcement or reminder over the lock screen so you don't miss it.
  • Foreground service (including data-sync and media-playback types) — to keep email delivery and urgent-message alerts running reliably.
  • Run at startup, wake lock, and vibrate — to restore email delivery after a reboot and to sound/vibrate alerts reliably.
  • Ignore battery optimizations (optional, with your permission) — to keep email arriving promptly in the background on devices that would otherwise delay it.

The App does not request access to your contacts or phone/call state.

9. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal information under laws such as the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).

Because DataMopp-Up stores your communication data locally on your device rather than on our servers, you can exercise most of these rights directly — you can access, correct, and delete your data on the device (including the “Delete all my data” control in Section 5), and you can uninstall the App to remove its local data.

For questions about your rights, or to make a request regarding any information you believe we control, contact us at Support@DataMopp-Up.com.

10. Third-Party Services

The App relies on the following third-party services, each governed by its own privacy policy:

  • Google Play services / AdMob — https://policies.google.com/privacy
  • Google Gemini API (for AI summaries you request, after consent) — https://policies.google.com/privacy
  • Your email providers (Google, Microsoft, Yahoo/AOL, or your IMAP host) — governed by their respective privacy policies when the App connects to your accounts at your direction.

We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third parties, and we encourage you to review their policies.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last Updated” date above and, where appropriate, provide notice within the App. Your continued use of the App after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy. If you object to a change, discontinue use of the App and delete your data as described in Section 5.
